This immaculately kept shrine is as restful a place to visit as it is a beautiful place. Sweathouses were small stone buildings. The fire within would make the place very warm and people would sit inside to burn their fevers away. They were an early form of sauna in one way but with a definite medical intent. The bulk of these are now to be found in the northwest of Ireland but it is likely that they were common everywhere at one stage. This one is in remarkably good repair. Access is fine if you can handle bad-signposting. The walk itself is a bit steep, the part is a bit rough so not ideal for people with difficulty walking on uneven surfaces. There is a place to pull a car in but no formal parking and no disabled parking either

Cool hidden gem along sli liatroma. Tight hill climb if hiking/running/biking. Nice rest+picnic area with carpark at foothills with beautiful panoramic views over Lough Allen and the Arigna valley.
